How to Survive an Early Rush in Tower Rush

Why Rushes Happen

There is nothing more terrifying than seeing a massive army approach your base at minute three. Therefore, your only goal is simply to survive the initial onslaught; you do not need to win the fight immediately. Send a cheap worker across the map in the first minute to check the enemy’s buildings. Do not panic when you see the enemy forces marching across the map. We will cover the specific techniques required to hold the line against these aggressive tactics.

Reacting to the Threat

Every ounce of gold must be spent on survival. Place your barracks and supply depots in a tight wall to block melee units. A single well-placed cannon can often single-handedly stop a poorly executed rush. Defender’s advantage is massive; use your base’s natural defenses to win the engagement. Workers deal very little damage, but their sheer numbers can overwhelm a small strike force.

  • This buys you precious time to train more defensive units.
  • Never give up the high ground to chase a retreating enemy.
  • Killing the enemy leader will often break the morale of the attack and force a retreat.
  • Without reinforcements, their initial army will eventually run out of steam.
  • Once you repel the attack, do not counter-attack immediately unless you are certain you can win.

Specialized Defenses

A rush of fast, fragile infantry requires a very different defense than a rush of heavy armor. If facing a massive swarm of weak units (a ’Zerg’ rush), prioritize splash damage. Standard cannons will bounce harmlessly off heavily plated rushers. Sometimes, the enemy will execute a ’tower rush,’ building offensive turrets near your base.

Rush Strategy The Tell Defensive Response
The Swarm Multiple cheap production buildings; zero tech structures. Wall off choke points entirely; build splash damage towers and fire traps.
Forward Base Enemy main base is empty; no barracks found at their spawn. Scout the perimeter of your own base; destroy the hidden buildings quickly.
The Knight Push Enemy rushes to a tier-two structure immediately; low unit count. Build armor-piercing magic towers; use slowing effects to kite the heavy units.
The Tower Rush An enemy worker is seen lingering aggressively near your natural expansion. Pull 5-6 workers to kill the enemy builder immediately before the structure finishes.

To summarize, defensive patience and structural planning are your best tools. Everyone falls victim to a well-executed proxy rush at some point in their career. You will not have time to figure out the geometry during an actual panic situation. When they see their entire army melt against your perfect defense, they often just quit. Hold the line, protect your workers, and secure your inevitable victory.</p
